Reflections on what might have been
Since the 60th decade of the last century I have been entranced by the promise of the digital world. I have discovered, embraced, lived by and promoted it before being disillusioned by it. My love affair with digital began with the realisation that information was mutable and could be re-arranged and re-presented so that it became knowledge that might empower society. Forty years on the promise has yet to be realised and the knowledge society has become little more than the second industrial age.
